If you’re interested in joining Qantas Club then you might want to consider joining before April 18. And if you’re a member already, renewing now might save you some money.
That’s because come April 18, Qantas will be hiking the join fee and membership fees making club access more expensive. The price increases apply to both individual and partner members.
What does Qantas Club access provide?
If you’re a member of Qantas Club, you’ll get access to benefits including:
Access to Qantas lounges both domestically and internationally
Ability to request on departure upgrades for domestic flights using points via the Qantas app
Additional baggage allowances as detailed here
Ability to invite a guest with you into the Qantas lounge
How much are prices increasing by?
Detailed price details can be found here, but the initial joining fee to Qantas Club for an individual member is increasing from $99 to $129 in Australia. Membership prices for the first year then jump from $600 to $699, or from $1100 to $1299 for two years.
For partner membership joining fees are also rising from $99 to $129, with one year memberships increasing to $629 up from $360.
Renewal prices are also increasing, with individual renewals for a single year up to $629 from $540 in Australia. For partners, the hike is even bigger going from $360 to $629.
Can I get a discount?
There are a number of ways you can get a discount to Qantas Club, including:
Joining a corporate scheme - many major Australian employers offer employees access to their corporate scheme that provides a significant discount for Qantas Club access
Join Qantas Business Rewards, and you can save up to 30% off the published Qantas Club prices although there are additional fees for the Business Rewards program
Earn 350k Qantas points in a year and you’ll reach Qantas Points Club+. A benefit of this program is a complimentary Qantas Club membership
Reach platinum or gold Qantas Frequent Flyer status to gain access to Qantas Club lounges
Alternatively if you’re just after the lounge access at the airport, many credit cards offer guest lounge passes as an included benefit. If you don’t fly frequently, this can often be a better alternative.
Why are prices rising now?
Qantas says that the last time total membership prices increased for Qantas Club was seven years ago. They did modify fees in 2021, by reducing the joining fee and increasing the membership fee.
The airline says that this price hike is required to cover increased costs from suppliers, as well as fund its $100 million lounge renewal program. There’s also the ongoing rumours about a cheaper, subscription-based lounge access program that may instead attract those after the lounge benefits.
