Jetstar is out with a new flight route today, introducing direct daily flights from Avalon to Brisbane.

This comes just days after the airline added a new route from Sydney to Margaret River. The airline also recently added flights from Adelaide to the Whitsundays.

When are the flights from Avalon to Brisbane?

Jetstar says the flights will commence from the 28th June. Initially the flights will operate on the following schedule:

  • JQ634 from Avalon to Brisbane, departing at 3pm and arriving at 6:20pm local time

  • JQ635 from Brisbane to Avalon, departing at 7:30pm and arriving at 9:40pm

From the 5th October, the schedule will swap with Brisbane flights to depart in the afternoon and Avalon flights in the evening:

  • JQ635 from Brisbane to Avalon, departing at 4:30pm and arriving at 7:55pm

  • JQ634 from Avalon to Brisbane, departing at 8:30pm and arriving at 9:40pm local time

Is this the first time Jetstar has offered flights from Avalon to Brisbane?

No, Jetstar used to offer flights from Avalon to Brisbane but these ceased in April 2014. At the time, Jetstar revealed the flights were “loss-making” and that a decision had been made to terminate the flights in consultation with Avalon Airport management.

Instead, Jetstar introduced an additional Sydney flight.

Where is Avalon airport?

Avalon Airport is Melbourne’s second major airport, located 45 minutes from the CBD. The airport is situated 20 minutes from Geelong, and is the ideal location to fly to if you’re heading to the Great Ocean Road or Surf Coast.

While international flights are yet to return post-COVID, a number of domestic flights depart each day for Sydney, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. The airport operates 24/7.

Bonza and Jetstar are the two airlines currently offering commercial flights arriving and departing from the airport. Qantas and Virgin fly exclusively from Melbourne Airport instead.
