However, you may be able to arrange a taxi or use a ride-share service to transit between the two airports. Keep in mind it takes around 1 hour to drive between both airports in reasonable traffic. Note also that there’s a $3 fee for taxi or ride-share services collecting passengers from the airport that may be passed along to you.

What facilities are available at Avalon Airport?

Avalon Airport has ample paid parking available, as well as car hire, ride-share and taxi services.

It’s also worth noting that Avalon has recently changed to using number-plate reading technology when arriving and departing the paid parking areas. So unlike Melbourne Airport, you won’t need to use a credit card or keep a QR code handy.

The departure terminal is a small facility that features a cafe and bookstore/newsagent that open during the day when flights are departing.

Aside from the bathrooms, there’s not much else in the way of facilities - the departures hall has a very country airport vibe. You won’t find any extravagant airline lounges here. If you’re after a lounge, you’ll need to travel to Tullamarine airport in Melbourne instead.

One thing that Avalon Airport has is open space. There’s plenty of parking available at Avalon, so you shouldn’t need to worry that you won’t be able to find a parking space. This differs from Melbourne Airport, where it can be difficult to find parking during peak travel periods such as Christmas and Easter.

Is there a train to Avalon Airport?

No, currently there are no trains that service Avalon Airport. The closest train stations are Lara or Little River, however neither have a bus that will take you to Avalon Airport. You’ll instead need to catch a ride-share or taxi to complete your journey.

If you’re coming from or heading to Melbourne’s CBD, your best bet is to catch the SkyBus instead. Or if you’re heading to Geelong, check out these options.
