Sydneysiders looking for direct flights to new destinations are in luck, with Qantas launching its new service from Sydney to Papua New Guinea. Jetstar has also commenced flying direct to Osaka, Japan.
The two new routes are now being serviced, and you can book flights via the Qantas and Jetstar websites or through authorised travel agents.
How can I fly from Sydney to Papua New Guinea?
You can now fly direct with Qantas from Sydney to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea with return flights twice per week. The airline is using its Boeing 737 aircraft to service the route.
The flights are as follows:
QF191 - Sydney to Port Moresby departing Monday & Friday mornings
QF192 - Port Moresby to Sydney departing Monday & Friday afternoons
The only other airline to fly direct between Sydney and Port Moresby is Air Niugini. Air Niugini’s direct flights are also on Mondays and Fridays.
If you’re not seeking a direct flight from Sydney, then you might have more luck flying via Brisbane Airport. Qantas flies daily from Brisbane to Port Moresby, and Air Niugini also fly out of Brisbane.
How can I fly from Sydney to Osaka, Japan?
Jetstar has just re-launched direct flights between Sydney and Osaka, Japan. The flights depart on the following schedule:
JQ13 - Sydney to Osaka (KIX), departing 10:20am local time (11:20am during daylight savings) and arriving at 7pm. Departs Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
JQ14 - Osaka (KIX) to Sydney, departing 9:25pm local time and arriving at 8:10am (9:10am during daylight savings) the next day. Departs Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Jetstar is currently the only airline flying direct between Sydney and Osaka. Other airlines including XiamenAir and Cathay Pacific offer flights to Osaka with lengthy layovers along the way, although you may want to use these to your benefit.
