If you’re after some extra legroom while flying economy, you might want to book soon as Qantas has announced new pricing. Prices are set to rise across the board for seats with extra legroom, as the company prepares to increase Qantas club fees.
As first spotted by Executive Traveller, Qantas plans to hike the prices for extra legroom by between $5 to $15 from the 18th April, 2024.
For most short-haul domestic trips, seats with extra space will jump from $30 to $35. Medium haul domestic journeys will see the price rise from $40 to $45. Long haul flights will increase from $65 to $70.
If you’re travelling on the route between Perth and Sydney, or Perth and Brisbane then you’ll need to stump up $75. The same goes for flights between Sydney and Broome.
Pricing also increases for international flights, with long-haul hit the hardest. Prices will rise by $15, from $180 to $195. Pricing for extra-legroom seats on short-haul and medium-haul international flights will rise by $5.
Do I still need to pay within 80 hours of my flight departure?
Additionally, according to Executive Traveller row four on domestic flights serviced by Boeing 737 aircraft will no longer be available for free within 80 hours of departure. This is a common travel ‘hack’ used to score better seats for free.
Currently, if the seats aren’t booked prior to the 80 hour window then any customer can choose them without paying. But after April 18, this will no longer be the case unless you’re a Platinum One or Chairman’s Lounge member.
Notably this change doesn’t apply if you’re flying international as yet. Nor does it apply to other flights not serviced by Qantas 737 aircraft domestically.
What other Qantas fees are increasing on April 18?
The 18th April extra legroom price rise coincides with Qantas previous announcement of substantial increases for Qantas Club membership fees.
If you’re joining the program for the first time, you’ll be hit with both higher join fees and membership fees. If you’re an existing member you’ll need to pay more for your renewal.
