From June, there’ll be a number of changes to be aware of it you’re booking a short-haul flight with Air New Zealand.

In a first for the airline, all customers will now have access to the full inflight entertainment system. All airfares will also include a snack or a meal, and tea, coffee, water and juice.

As a result of this change, the airline will no longer allow customers to purchase food onboard. Beverages will however continue to be available for purchase.

Air New Zealand says it’ll also phase out pre-paid food and beverage vouchers, in favour of Visa, Mastercard, or Amex cards. Airpoints can also continue to be redeemed for drinks.

The airline is also revamping the booking options. There’ll soon be a new “seat” fare type which doesn’t include checked baggage. If needed, you’ll be able to add a single checked-in bag for $30. This will replace the existing seat+bag fare.

Additionally, three new fare types will be introduced offering customers flexible and refundable fares. These will be called worksflexi, premiumflexi and businessflexi .

Once the changes are in place, Air New Zealand will offer the following fares:

  • seat

  • theworks

  • worksflexi

  • premiumeconomy

  • premiumflexi

  • businesspremier

  • businessflexi

Air New Zealand says the changes are designed to deliver “more choice and flexibility” for travellers.

The changes will apply to short-haul flights between New Zealand and the Tasman or Pacific Islands from June 2024. No changes to long-haul flight booking options were announced at this stage.
