Nauru Airlines has announced a new direct flight departing from Brisbane airport to Palau.

Palau forms part of the Micronesia region in the Pacific Ocean. It is made up of over 300 islands, and features pristine beaches and magnificent greenery and comprises around 458 square kilometres.

The six hour flight will be operated by Nauru Airlines on its Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft. The first flight commences on May 21, 2024.

Flights depart Brisbane on Tuesday evenings at 11:30pm, arriving at Palau International Airport at 4:30am. The return flight departs Wednesdays at 10:30pm, arriving into Brisbane at 5:30am.

To celebrate the launch, Nauru is offering return flights from $999.

New route provides opportunities for Brisbane and Palau

“Direct air access to Palau from Australia opens so many opportunities to develop sustainable tourism,” James Blake, Commercial Manager for Nauru Airlines said in a statement.

Prior to the direct route, it would take up to 17 hours (4 stops) to get to Palau from Brisbane with Nauru Airlines.

The Australian Government is supporting the new flights via its Australia-Pacific Partnerships for Aviation Program (P4A).

This provides support for Pacific nations including aviation skills and training, meteorological capabilities and developing airports as economic gateways.

The new route marks the 31st direct international destination from Brisbane Airport, which is uplifting its facilities. Prior to the COVID pandemic the airport had 33 direct international destinations.
